Mr. Spock's Ears

The ears that Leonard Nimoy used for his Mr. Spock character in the original Star Trek series are going to be up for sale on eBay. With all the crazy trekkies out there in the world, I could imagine bidding going crazy. The winning trekkie will be the talk of the Star Trek scene!

You can preview the auction here.

eBay Wins Patent Ruling

In an ongoing patent dispute with MercExchange, eBay won a major ruling today that could invalidate the one of the Virginia-based company's patents.

If it's upheld, it would invalidate the patent that led to a $25M patent infringement judgment against eBay.

Woman Sells Name On eBay

A Tennessee woman sold her name on eBay for $15,199.

So what does that mean? It means that she is going to legally change her name to whatever the winning bidder wants. The winning bidder was Golden Palace Casino (surprise, surprise... heh), and when the legal paperwork is done, her new legal name will be goldenpalace.com... Seriously. hah

eBay Motors Sale

eBay is holding a one-day sale today for listing parts and accessories on eBay Motors. Basically the insertion fee is capped at $0.50 for today only.

Noah's Ark

If you ever wanted to load up a bunch of animals on a boat and sail around the world (without needing to refuel), now you can!

This guy spent 15 years building a 98 foot boat by hand (it's 90% finished). I'm amazed a boat nearly 100 feet long stood in his front yard for 15 years without his homeowners association getting on his case. :)

Truthfully, if you go check out the auction, there are lots of pictures, and it's a pretty impressive feat this guy built this thing single-handedly.

Craigslist Beamed Into Space

I know it's not really auction related, but since eBay owns such a large part of Craig's List, I'll stretch it to say it's auction related. :)

So here's the deal... earlier this month, a company called Deep Space Communications Network beamed the worlds first commercial transmission of a web site into outer space.

What was the transmission exactly? About 125,000 random postings from craigslist.org of course! So now if aliens need to find a roommate or are looking for a used saxophone, they know where to get it.

Selling Your Voice On eBay

Floyd Hayes, a 33 year old creative directory at Cunning Stunts Communications (a non-traditional advertising firm) sold his voice on eBay for $750. What does that actually give the winning bidder? This week he will scream out the name of the winning bidder during work hours every 15 minutes.

His firm was also came up with the idea to project a 80 foot tall naked woman onto London's House of Parliament for FHM magazine's "100 Sexiest Women" issue back in 1999.

Baazee.com Becomes eBay.in

eBay's India division (made through acquisition of baazee.com) officially hit the switch today, and they are now known as ebay.in. Not too exciting unless you are in India I suppose, but I figured it was just a matter of time.

Virgin Mary Sandwich Pan

The lady that sold the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich to Golden Palace Casino for $28,000+ (and arguably started the latest whack eBay auction craze) is now selling the holy pan it was cooked in. It will be interesting to see if Golden Palace buys the pan it goes in.

Either way, it's a good investment for anyone that buys it. You can manufacture $28,000 grilled cheese sandwiches with just $0.25 worth of bread and cheese.

The Pope's Dorito Hat

It looks like the Pope might have eaten too many Doritos and turned into a Dorito himself. All that remains of his hat is now for sale on eBay.

Currently the bidding is up to $122.50 with 2 1/2 days left on the auction. So if you want to buy it, you better get over here quick!

eBay Looses Patent Claim

The US Court of Appeals said there was "substantial evidence" that eBay fixed price marketplace (the Buy It Now functions) violates a patent held by a Virginia man. Now the specifics of it just need to be sorted out in a lower court.

Boy, that would be a good patent to have, considering the Buy It Now feature generates a huge percentage of eBay's transactions. If the patent infringement is somehow upheld, I could see eBay paying $1B for the rights to the patent.

Disputed 9/11 Flag Goes For $25,000

An American flag that was flying over the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 was sold on eBay for $25,000.

It was sold for $371,300 a few weeks ago, but then the buyer backed out when he questioned the authenticity of the flag. So they put it back up for auction, and it's been sold (again).

Leroy's Home Empregnification Clinic Kit

Having trouble making a baby? Go check out Leroy's auction for a "home empregnification clinic kit".

It's stupid of course, but many times stupid is funny. heh

The scary part is that someone bid $1,473.38 on it.

What does it include?

  • 2 Yellow Rubber Dishwashin Gloves 1 left, 1 right (sterile- Kinda Boring, Again, not an animal)

  • 3 Ampules- All plastic, sterile and clean, all the time. Cant believe how much there's no animal here.

Ride A Bike From New Hampshire To Flordia

These guys have put together an eBay auction to pay off their student loans. They will bike from New Hampshire to Florida and back promoting whatever the winning bidder wants.

They should do well with the auction because it looks like Golden Palace Casino has picked up on it (they are the current high bidde, although the reserve has not yet been met).

If someone gives me just $10,000, I'll fly from San Diego to Maine to Flordia to Maine to San Diego in a much faster time (I could probably do it in 24 hours, but 48 hours for sure).

Ozzy Osbournes Front Door To Go On eBay?

Ozzy's childhood home in the United Kingdom has become a pilgrimage destination point for crazy fans. The front door of the house is constantly being vandalized, and now the current owner needs to replace it. So what is he going to do with the old one?

Sell it on eBay of course!

Trading Human Body Parts On eBay

eBay has disallowed an artist to sell their paintings that were drawn in blood because it violates their terms about not selling human body parts.

Seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Plus, what ever happened to this auction? It wasn't canceled... which seems kind of hypocritical to me.

Auction Your Money With Zopa

UK based Zopa launched an auction service this week that pairs money borrowers and lenders. Lenders set the interest rate they want, and who they want to lend to based on the borrowers credit rating. Essentially it's a money loan system done in the eBay style.

It will be interesting to watch this year to see if it catches on.

Living Room Wall For Sale On eBay

Some college students decided to sell their living room wall on eBay. The winner will get to put whatever ads they want on it for a few months.

Seems like a big of a limited advertising audience, but whatever...

Stolen Pacemakers

Amber Elizabeth Bowen, 21, was arrested last week and remains in jail on a $25,000 bail. She stole 2 pacemakers worth $6,000 each and sold them on eBay for $200 each. One of the "hot" pacemakers was already implanted in a patient in Arizona.

What would *really* scare me though would be getting surgery done at a hospital that buys things like pacemakers on eBay.

I wonder if they will have to remove it and return it to it's rightful owner? :)

Two Headed Pig

If you have always wanted a mantel piece to really talk about, now you can be the owner of a genuine two-headed pig.

There currently is one bid ($5,000), but the reserve has not yet been met. You can check it out here.

Some strange stuff over in Singapore.

Stolen Tools Bought By Original Owner On eBay

An Indiana man had his tools stolen, then was looking for new ones to replace them on eBay. To his amazement, he found his stolen tools for sale on eBay. To prove they were his, he actually bought them from the thief.

After the police raided the thief's house, they found thousands of tools from hundreds of thefts.

Ohio Citizens Will Need Auctioneer License To Sell On eBay

A bill signed last month by Ohio Governor Bob Taft puts in place a new law that starts on May 1st that requires individuals selling things on eBay to first obtain an auctioneer license.

Now the governor has asked for clarification on what he signed. Scary that state governors blindly sign things without understanding them. Of course, I'm sure our president does too. :)

I swear sometimes I think law makers have no clue about anything.

Attitash Yours For $5,400

A Boston businessman bought the exclusive rights to use the Attatash ski resort for a day on April 4th for $5,400. He can invite up to 1,000 of his friends.

That's a pretty cool idea if you ask me. Keep everyone else off the slopes. :)

Playboy Cover Girl Sells Breast Implant On eBay

Tawny Peaks removed her 69-HH (WTF?!?) breast implants in 1999 to "start a new life". Now, she found them in her closet, and decided she doesn't really need them anymore. So what do you do with useless junk? Sell it on eBay of course!

This is the same boob that was the center of a lawsuit, when a man sued her and her employer, saying he suffered a whiplash injury when she swung her breasts into his face at a bachelor party. He said they were "like two cement blocks."

Anyway, bidding is currently up to $1,453, so if you are a Tawny Peaks stalker, this is a must have item!

What the hell is wrong with people?

How Big Is eBay?

eBay facilitates so many transactions, that if you compare the dollar value of all those transactions to entire economy of countries, it currently would rank #56. Roughly the same size as the Kuwait economy. The scary thing is it's growing too. It's not too far off from the point that eBay has a larger "economy" than Russia.
